Amorsbrunn chapel

Amorsbrunn 2, 63916 Amorbach

The Amorsbrunn Chapel is a cultural and historical gem. In the chapel built on a spring shrine, the Jesse altar is particularly worth seeing.

Numerous legends are associated with Amorsbrunn Chapel in the Otterbach valley. Irish wandering monks, whom the Gaugraf Ruthard brought to the region in the eighth century, are said to have brought Christianity to the Odenwald. By the 12th century, this little Romanesque church had been erected on the former cult site. Amorsbrunn water has long been said to have healing properties, especially for childlessness and eye diseases. People still come to the chapel today to collect spring water. During a guided tour of the chapel, which is about two kilometres from the old town, you can see the Jesse altar, which was built around 1500 and depicts the descent of Jesus from the house of King David as a tree of life.
